milwaukee river- sturgeon rehabilitation

So, I came across this sign last week while fishing the Milwaukee River.

Lake Sturgeon Reintroduction Project
It prompted me to do a little more research on the Milwaukee River stocking program and here is some of the best links I found online.

  1. That is very exciting. I know we are working hard in Ohio to help the Lake Sturgeon... a trend that I hope continues all over the Great Lakes. Glad to see them getting some love in your neck of the woods!

  3. I don't fish for them, but know several who do. We have a bunch (and big ones) in the Sacramento River and the Delta. I hope your restocking program goes well. You'll love these fish.

  6. I'm not sure how the overall program is doing, but last year early during the king run, I did run into one. It was a pleasant surprise, probably was about 6 1/2 feet.

    1. with spawning maturity for females averaging around 25 years, it possible that the next gen of anglers are the ones who really have some shots at trophy fish
