better days ahead

Fishing on Sunday afternoon was cold, wet, and foggy as all get out. Lord knows if instinct didn't take over, I certainly would have gotten lost on the way to a river I have fished countless times.

Conditions then were on the rise, and now they are more comparable to flood stages. When we first started fishing the flows were moving at a slow and steady pace but at the end of the day the river was really starting to kick and the water had really colored up.

My buddy flipping spawn and me swinging streamers both came up empty and soaked to the bone, but that’s just fine because there are better days ahead.

  1. Brave to fish those conditions, it's that time of year again isn't it.

  2. The water rise should hopefully pull the steelies in.

  3. I was also out on Sunday and we were hoping to see some pre-spawn or even some spawning pike. We did not get that wet but did cover some miles of the Des Plaines River. Was great to be out but we were a bit early and the water temps were 40 degrees. For the pike and eyeballs, we need 5-8 more degrees and they will be moving. Good luck out there and I agree, we have better days ahead.

  4. It's always a shock to start out on dry land and suddenly realize the water is up to your knees. Makes you wonder how the hell that happened.

I know it was cold, but just to be on that river had to be a plus--beautiful setting and I know you will make it back there in the Spring to land some nice trout. thanks for sharing

  8. Have you considered going fishing for catfish in Wisconsin? Here is a great article and video on the topic. I know it's different than fly fishing and going with the salmon and trout but, can be just as fun. I hope to see/hear some updates from you soon!
