fox lake shore fishing report

some fox chain perch and a rouge white bass
For a little better then a month now a few friends have been beating up the shorelines of the Fox Chain Of Lakes. Mostly we have been out in the late afternoon into the early evening hours after work. The bite has remained pretty consistent and just as most days fishing the chain, a good mix bag can be expected. The perch and white bass have been fairly aggressive and good numbers of small walleyes have been showing up. Dozens of eyes have been caught in shallow but only a couple have been beaten the 17 inch mark.

Live bait fished in various fashions remains king and is always a safe bet. Sheepshead and drum populations are stronger then ever and can be real difficult to keep of the live bait. With some sorting it isn’t too difficult to come up with a nice bag.

Those Fox Chain Perch looks like they would be a blast on a 3 wt. I haven't seen that type fish before.

  2. Those perch will be a tasty treat for sure. Nice mixed bag as well! I talked to guy Friday that lives up in Antioch on Lake Catherine and they have been getting some decent eyes by Watts Marina under the 173 Bridge. Also he told me his cousin caught a drum and fried it up in beer batter and said it was actually tasty. Great report and even better catch!

    1. Seems like your on Walleye watch as well. It's funny you mention eating drum. One of the guys fishing with us swears by them. Said the meat is clean and firm. Plus they don't eat shit. Most of their diet is small fish and zebra mussels.

    2. I am always on Walleye watch. Thats what happens when one of your best friends is a walleye pro ;) I know they have been getting some decent ones down by the mchenry dam(always a good goto in spring). Wisconsin river is doing decent as well. Il. river they are up by the wing dams. Lake geneva should pick-up in the shallows once the water temps hit 50-55 degrees as well. The walleye bite should be awesome in the next few weeks. The FLW event in red wing last week had fish in the river and none in lake pepin. Big bag all came from the wing dams. Tommy Skarlis had a 5 fish bag of 36lbs. Most of the females where still loaded with eggs.

  4. Nice catch! Wonder if the sheepshead taste much different than carp. I have heard carp is good smoked.
