Illinois Fox River Smallmouth Bass Fishing

wading for fox river smallmouth bass
With the shore fishing for kings still a few weeks away and the inland trout streams locked up with some serious weed growth me and Damien have converted to river smallmouth fishing. Due to logistics he will most likely focus his efforts from Cook County Illinois and south and I mainly will focus from Racine County Wisconsin and north.

Damien and his father fished a few tributaries of the Fox River and kept the presentation simple. The winning ticket was a 1/16th ounce jig head with a white twister tail grub. He shared that a lot of the hits came while working the jig against the current. It kept the presentation slow, gave the jig a lot of action, and kept the bait in the strike zone for longer. Stay tuned over the next few weeks for some more warm water wading.

  2. I hear you with the streams and weeds taking over. I can't seem to escape the damn gnats. How were they on the small mouth rivers? Nice looking smallies, makes me want to ditch the trout and head for the bass. Tight Lines.

  4. The assumption is made that Damien will be the only one fishing the creeks I told him about and their names will never get mentioned. I see other people out there, I will hunt you all down and take you all out one by one.

    :-)

The smiley face is a ruse. I'm dead serious.

  6. Nick- its a great way to wait out the big fish on the big lake

Trout Magee- I didnt relize that gnats bite, I got chewed up bad last time out in dane county. They were so thick in my ears, nose, and eyes.

Bill- 6 and a half light action rod with 6 or 8 pound test

Ken G- You got nothing to worry about. Damien wont even tell me where he was. In the event you plan on hunting us down, start with him first. It will give me time to hide. Honestly though, i never have posted a name of a creek and dont plan on starting any time soon!
