So, I came across this sign last week while fishing the Milwaukee River .
Lake Sturgeon Reintroduction Project |
It prompted me to do a little more research on the Milwaukee River stocking program and here is some
of the best links I found online.
That is very exciting. I know we are working hard in Ohio to help the Lake Sturgeon... a trend that I hope continues all over the Great Lakes. Glad to see them getting some love in your neck of the woods!
ReplyDeleteyup, and the milwaukee river is just one of the many river on lake michigan with a similar program
DeleteSuch an awesome fish!! I can't wait to see the population skyrocket so we can actually fish for them.
ReplyDeleteuntil then we always have the chance of accidentally catching one
DeleteI don't fish for them, but know several who do. We have a bunch (and big ones) in the Sacramento River and the Delta. I hope your restocking program goes well. You'll love these fish.

DeleteI hope the program goes well and you are one day able to fish for them.
ReplyDeleteonly time will tell
DeleteI'm not sure how the overall program is doing, but last year early during the king run, I did run into one. It was a pleasant surprise, probably was about 6 1/2 feet.
ReplyDeletenow that's a cool suprise, so they are out there right Ying!
DeleteA great program for future generations. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeletewith spawning maturity for females averaging around 25 years, it possible that the next gen of anglers are the ones who really have some shots at trophy fish
