the winter is dragging

The winter is dragging, and I'm about to scream. All I want is a fly rod in my hands and flowing water. I really believe that I was bred for warmer conditions then this.

Ice fishing is what keeps me going in the winter and more of a chance to hang out with friends and family while waiting for the thaw.

Fishing in the last few weeks has been pretty slow. While we have been on top of fish both times I've fished its been a lot of sniffers. Spent 3 hours out with my brother in law tonight and for the first hour and a half I was scared that we weren't actually going to catch a fish.

Things turned on in the last hour and we each got some bluegills and he took the tip up bass.

Winter is old but I think I'm going to give this ice fishing another go tomorrow...

I know this doesn't make you feel any better, but early spring fishing in the deep south is fantastic. I will be out of town next week, but the first week in March is my start for this season. Crappie will be the first order of business, and then some tailrace action. Take heart you will be on the water with the fly soon.

  2. I am ready for spring fishing as well. I have been preparing for it by tying a few flies. I feel I will be river fishing trout in 2-3 weeks. The days are much longer and it is only a mater of time.

  4. I've been doing the same thing BrookField Angler has been doing, and any short outing with a fly rod in my hand is a treat. (There haven't been any...2? ha)

How thick was the ice? I hear some places on the border reaching 30"
