Brought to you from somewhere in Lake County on a hot summer day. Fishing in a dress shirt and a tie just after work. This isn't the most technical type of fishing around but for me its getting back to my roots. Nothing huge, nothing to brag about, but it sure feels good to bend the rod on a couple largemouth bass. With a little diligence, there are some big ones to be had.

When fishing ponds, its best to keep it simple. Cranks, spinnerbaits, plastics and topwater baits are all super choices. My best luck has come close to shore, usually right where the bottom begins to taper off. Rocky shorelines and extra cover is always an added bonus. You may have a problem when your wife finds the loose plastic worms in your dress pants pocket. Working late... sure you are!

Very nice. I used to fish a golf course near my house as a child in Indiana. There were some big bass and slab gills if you could get through the weeds.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure how the courses work in Illinois, but I haven't tried to fish any of them. There are a few that look quite tempting though.
I took my 2w along last time I hit the links. It's my best used piece of equipment in my bag. Great post!
ReplyDeleteIve never been one for golf but sure do love me some pond bass!
ReplyDeleteThose are some nice after work Bass. Nothing better than the bite and the fight from a big ole large mouth. I have yet to get out yet this season, now you've inspired me! :) Thanks! Tight Lines
ReplyDeleteIf I lived just a little closer to you TM, I wouldnt have caught a bass yet either!
ReplyDeleteIf you say Nice Bass to a guy I guess you had better be sure that you didn't forget the B. LOL!
ReplyDeleteNever though about fishing the local links around here but I will now. Thanks for the tip!

ReplyDeleteSome of the best fishing can occur on golf courses. I am talking huge bass here, a buddy of mine landed a 5 lb. on a golf course.
agreed bill, its a great place for a quick fix...
ReplyDeleteHi Blake, greetings from South Korea! I live next to golf course (in IL) but never figured the rules of engagement on access. Do we do the stealth ninja thing? i.e. fish then run away when the golf course people come? Or do you approach it gentlemanly and ask for permission? The stealth thing would be more fun but might get me arrested. How did you get access?
ReplyDeleteBTW - I fished with Capt Kent (the video on monster bows in Georgia) and I highly recommend his guide service. He is both an excellent guide and a great character to spend a few days with. He is generous with local fishing information both while fishing together and even when not. Noontootla Creek Farms bows are crazy and your arms will hurt after a day of fishing.
ReplyDeleteMan, Them are some toads for the golf course! Sweet
ReplyDeleteGone Fishing- I tend to fish there just before sunset and there is access with out actually being on the greens. Not too sure i would wanna get arrested either? Dont think the wife would approve :(
